Project Overview

Greening Sheffield Fargate for people and the environment

The Transforming Cities Fund (TCF) Phase 1 scheme at Sheffield Fargate is a major city-centre public realm improvement, prioritising pedestrians and strengthening Fargate’s role as a key civic and retail space. The project enhances accessibility, movement and placemaking within Sheffield city centre.

Environmental measures are integral to the scheme. Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS) have been introduced to manage surface water and improve urban resilience, with SuDS planting, gravel areas and natural stone features softening the streetscape, enhancing visual quality and supporting biodiversity within a highly urban environment.

Killingley delivered the SuDS planting, gravel installation and boulder placement on behalf of principal contractor John Sisk, contributing to a high-quality, durable and environmentally responsive public realm for Sheffield Fargate.

Project Highlights

  • SuDS planting and gravel installation in a busy city-centre environment
  • Natural stone boulder placement softening the streetscape
  • Biodiversity supported through SuDS design and planting
  • Surface water management improved across Sheffield Fargate
  • Delivered on behalf of John Sisk within a live pedestrian environment
