Wirksworth Memorial Gardens

The NT Killingley Hard Landscaping department is delighted to have been awarded the contract to undertake the development of the Memorial Gardens on behalf of Wirksworth Parish Council.

The scheme will see the installation of a large paved area, with sympathetic planting used to frame and enclose the Royal British Legion Memorial. The Memorial will be improved with the installation of a resin surface creating a peaceful space and the existing gates will be used as a main focal element, emphasized by a linear strip of heritage paving to draw people into gardens. Part of the existing wall will be removed to open up the area, allowing ‘spill-out’ market space and a new bespoke curved bench will be installed around the specimen focal tree.

The estimating team worked closely with the Parish Council to value engineer the project to meet their budget and offer alternative products to create the same aesthetic appeal whilst reducing the cost. The project has been planned to coincide with the World War One Centenary - Armistice and is due to start in early March, running for a 6 week programme.

Hannah Brightmore, Quantity Surveyor for the Hard Landscaping Department, said “we are thrilled to have the opportunity to carry out this project and are really pleased the Parish Council have chosen NT Killingley for their scheme. We enjoy working on local projects and are looking forward to seeing this design come to life to give the residents an improved area for not only the local markets, but also a peaceful area for remembrance.“
