Tree Planting Ceremony Takes Place at The Avenue

A tree planting ceremony has taken place at The Avenue in Chesterfield this morning.

Homes England Chairman, Sir Ed Lister presented a bouquet of flowers to Councillor Elizabeth Ann Hill, Deputy Leader of North East Derbyshire District Council. A commemorative tree was also planted at the site in recognition of the work of many and to acknowledge Councillor Hill's personal contribution to bringing about the regeneration of the site.

Sir Ed Lister also received the CEEQUAL Excellent Whole Project Final Award in recognition of the approach to remediation of the Avenue.

The Avenue has been of the largest remediation projects in Europe and is the largest scheme currently being undertaken in the UK by the Homes Agency and is being delivered by VSD Avenue. The site incorporates a flood alleviation dam and SUDS scheme, public open space and amenities including football and cricket pitches, a 70-hectare nature reserve with footpaths, wetland habitats and a 28-hectare housing and light industrial development area.

NT Killingely are proud to have been involved with such a large scheme that is already seeing practical flood defence benefits to the town. The next phase of the development is the construction of 252 houses by Kier Living.
